Learn to unlearn-Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

A rare conversation between Ramkrishna Paramahansa & Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekanand:- I can’t find free time. Life has become hectic.

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:– Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you free.

Swami Vivekanand:- Why has life become complicated now?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Stop analyzing life.. It makes it complicated. Just live it.

Swami Vivekanand:- Why are we then constantly unhappy?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Worrying has become your habit. That’s why you are not happy.

Swami Vivekanand:– Why do good people always suffer?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:– Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don’t suffer.

With that experience their life becomes better, not bitter.

Swami Vivekanand:- You mean to say such experience is useful?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:– Yes. In every term, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons .

Swami Vivekanand:– Because of so many problems, we don’t know where we are heading…

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:– If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides the way.

Swami Vivekanand:– Does failure hurt more than moving in the right direction?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:– Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you.

Swami Vivekanand:- In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:– Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Swami Vivekanand:- What surprises you about people?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- When they suffer they ask, “why me?” When they prosper, they never ask “Why me?”

Swami Vivekanand:– How can I get the best out of life?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:– Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Swami Vivekanand:– One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:– There are no unanswered prayers. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Life is a mystery to solve, not a problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

Celebrate your failures and Face Adversities

Celebrate Failure as you celebrate success.Todays post is a chapter from my book The Reflection “Success or Stress” Choose Wisely

Winning has been over glorified and we forget that it is through learning from and losing that we become greater winners!

It’s better to give your best shot without thinking about the result. You may not succeed in one go, so what at least 10-15 years down the line one day you won’t wake up with a regret of not attempting it .Only those who know how to fail understand the true value of success in life.

Failing is considered a taboo. We measure people by their achievements. We put a high value on “success” but little or no value on “failure”.

Is there little or no value in falling? If that is so, why is it that all lives of great men that I have had the good fortune to read about – the tougher the failures they suffered, the greater they finally became?

Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are.

“Comparison Begets Regrets”

Have you ever faced failure in life and don’t know how to overcome it? Are you still dwelling on your past wherein you should be concentrating more on your future? Read on and find out how to overcome adversity in life.

Life is smooth till such time a wave of adversity does not swipe us off the ground. Ups and downs are part of life and there is nothing we can do about it because the Universe has its own way of working. Things that we desire the most are not given to us and what we get is not what we desire.

We all have a goal, the desire to succeed and also work hard towards it. During our struggle to meet our goals, we succeed at times and at times we face very sever and adverse failures, but then that’s not the end of road. Some people fight back and many succumb to the circumstances.

It is not wrong to fail, but it is a crime if you don’t get back up again and try. Look around you… look at the birds and animals. They keep trying to survive by hunting for food, at times they get it early and at times they fail. But if they start thinking that this whole process of finding food does not result into anything, then they would not survive.

If you fail and hit the ground hard, always remember, the only way where you can go is UP.

In the words of Henry Ford:

“Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward.”

Tips to counter Failure :

Stop blaming yourself and people associated with you

You might have tried very hard and failed but you should always remember that not all circumstances are under your control. When people fail, they usually don’t try to find out why they failed, but instead they start blaming themselves.

Do you blame yourself for a failure? Do you really think that you were responsible for your failure? Do you really think that despite trying very hard, you did not get through? We all try hard and then at times we fail. Many reasons could be attributed to it. Instead of blaming ourselves (which is easy), we should try to find the reason why we failed. By doing this, not only will you have a greater understanding where you went wrong, but you will avoid repeating the same mistake in the next attempt.

Don’t ever think that all your efforts have been wasted

To achieve something in life a dedicated effort is required. Some people give it their 100% and some people don’t. But no matter what, none of your efforts ever get wasted. In the process of trying again and again, we gain experience of the mistakes we should avoid to achieve the desired result. Taking the example of Thomas Edison, the man who invented Light Bulb, he failed over 1000 times before he could derive at the bulb that we use today. At a press conference he announced that he now knows 1000 ways of how not to make a light bulb.

Never get disheartened and always enjoy learning the new things that you discover on your way to be successful.

Try another approach

You try once, twice and then thrice… with a similar approach; and then what do you do? Give Up!!! Have you ever thought that the approach that you use to achieve something is wrong and would require either a complete new way of looking at things or would require you to tweak your approach a little and then try again? All scientific discoveries and inventions have taken years of hard work and dedication. Do you think that doctors and scientist across the world have got a working model of their inventions in the very first attempt? Do you think that for all repeated attempts at their inventions they followed a similar approach? I think you got the answer.

Take a break for a while

When we try hard to achieve goals in life we sometimes get into the rut of doing things which has an effect our thinking process. Without a good thinking process and creativity how do you propose to achieve what you desire the most? In my personal experience taking a short break helps when you feel that you have reached a road block on proceeding ahead. This short break recharges you and helps you to think of a solution which you have never thought of before. Spend sometime with friends and family. Try to socialize a little and when you feel that you are completely recharged give your dreams a second shot.

To sum it up these lines can be the best one………

“Bheega Hua Aadmi Baarish Se Nahin Darta”

Life is all about leaning, adopting and converting all the struggles that we experience into something positive.

Stress – Give it Wings & Let it Fly Away

Happiness is a choice So is Stress

If you’re stressed, you make poor decisions, you get sick more easily, and you spread your stress to those around you.In today’s world most of the people are suffering from some or other form of stress and which badly affects them at all the levels. Normally at training’s the most common question which people ask are What can the concerned individual (Manager) do today, to begin managing his or her personal stress?

So here are few steps which can be useful in countering Stress.

The following steps may be considered:

  • Consciously assess your pace of life.  Take inventory of all recent changes.  Include current or upcoming changes.  Analyze job situations and identify those you find particularly stressful.
  • Try to become aware of your own physical and emotional limits.  Learn to detect stress symptoms (heart palpitations, headaches, rapid pulse, insomnia).  Learn to identify your state of stress so you can begin to deal with it directly.
  • Simplify your life.  Attempt to foresee the occurrence of specific stress-producing job events, and try to schedule them so they do not occur simultaneously.  Don’t suppress all change and tension–merely “manage” it
  • Leave job tension at the office–keep work and home life separate.
  • Leave room within your coping range for unanticipated stress situations.  Don’t load your time and budget your energy completely to its quota.  Maintain a state of readiness by staying healthy.
  • When an unexpected stress situation or major change arises, stop and think about it.  Is it really as serious as it appears to be on the surface?  Is it worth the expenditure of valuable energy on worrying and tension?  Or, with the application of a little imagination and flexibility, can you adapt easily and readily?
  • Evaluate the various alternative mechanisms you have for coping with tension.  Are the “old ways” still working effectively?  Or is it time to take a break, get away from it all, and evaluate new courses of action objectively?
  • Be flexible and imaginative, and shy away from stereotyped reactions.  Follow through by analyzing the implications and range of consequences in your response.
  • Above all, be in conscious control of your life.  Participate actively, and with flexibility.  Remember, as a manager, that you are particularly exposed to tension and susceptible to stress.
  • Remember, too, that stress is not all bad.  Some stress is both necessary and desirable.  The basic issue is not its elimination but its containment and allocation–the management of stress.

Slowing Down Internally

  • Try to stop doing more than one thing at a time.
  • Learn to listen without interrupting.
  • Do things that require concentration–not just the trivial things.
  • Learn to savor your food–take time to enjoy it.
  • Cultivate your sense of humor.
  • Review once a week the causes of your “hurry sickness.”
  • Control your impatience.
  • Take time to show your appreciation to others in a genuine way.

Re-Energize Your Life

  • Get up earlier, start the day leisurely, not fighting against time.
  • Try to find a period in the day for total body relaxation.
  • Restructure trips and vacations to relieve stress, not cause it.

Modifying Your Work Habits

  • Ask yourself what there is you should stop doing.
  • Eliminate activities, not do more in less time.
  • Don’t leave half-completed projects around the office–they simply remind you that you’re behind.
  • Eliminate business luncheons when possible–take an exercise break.
  • Try not to see every situation as a challenge, let others help.
  • Cultivate good judgment, not just speed, when making decisions.
  • Try not to impose your sense of time urgency on others–don’t continually interfere with others who work more slowly.
  • Examine your telephone habits.  Let others handle some of your calls.

The Ten Decalogue of Life

Please read carefully and relate these 10 Decalogue with your life….you may enjoy more.

1) Heavy rains remind us of challenges in life. Never ask for a lighter rain. Just pray for a better umbrella. That is attitude.

2) When flood comes, fish eat ants & when flood recedes, ants eat fish.Only time matters. Just hold on, God gives opportunity to everyone!

3) Life is not about finding the right person, but creating the right relationship, it’s not how we care in the beginning, but how much we care till ending.

4) Some people always throw stones in your path. It depends on you what you make with them, Wall or Bridge? Remember you are the architect of your life.

5) Every problem has (n+1) solutions, where n is the number of solutions that you have tried and 1 is that you have not tried. That’s life.

6) It is not important to hold all the good cards in life. But it’s important how well you play with the cards which you hold.

7) Often when we lose all hope & think this is the end, God smiles from above and says, `Relax dear it’s just a bend. Not the end’. Have Faith and have a successful life.

8) When you are sad, try to cheer up just go to the mirror and say, `Damn I am really so cute` and you will overcome your sadness. But don’t make this a habit coz liars go to hell.

9) One of the basic differences between God and human is, God gives, gives and forgives. But human gets, gets, gets and forgets. Be thankful in life!

10) Only two types of persons are happy in this world. First is Mad and second is Child. Be Mad to achieve what you desire and be a Child to enjoy what you have achieved.

A crab was once running on sea shore n was admiring its beautiful footprints….suddenly a huge wave splashed n washed away the footprints…

The crab said to the wave: I considered u as one of my best friends; then what made u do this

The wave replied: A fisherman was following your footprints; that’s why I cleared off…..

Who packs Your Parachute!!!

“Air Commodore Vishal was a Jet Pilot. In a combat mission his fighter plane was destroyed by a missile. He however ejected himself and parachuted safely. He won acclaims and appreciations from many.

After five years one day he was sitting with his wife in a restaurant. A man from another table came to him and said “You’re Captain Vishal ! You flew jet fighters. You were shot down!”

“How in the world did you know that?” asked Vishal.

“I packed your parachute,” the man smiled and replied.

Vishal gasped in surprise and gratitude and thought if parachute hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be here today.

Vishal couldn’t sleep that night, thinking about that man. He wondered how many times I might have seen him and not even said ‘Good morning, how are you?’ or anything because, he was a fighter pilot and that person was just a Constable.”

So friends, who is packing your parachute?

Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it through the day.

We need many kinds of parachutes when our plane is shot down – we need the physical parachute, the mental parachute, the emotional parachute, and the spiritual parachute.

We call on all these supports before reaching safety.

Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what is really important.

We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason.

As you go through this week, this month, this year, recognize the people who pack your parachute!!!

To My Teacher’s & Mentor’s With Love

Learnt many things in life being ‘Eklavya’. Thanks to all those ‘Dronacharya’ I came across.

The Reflection Success or Stress Choose Wisely

Well today I am sharing this article as a small dedication from my mentors and writing from there prospective about the qualities I have learned from them. For me it’s difficult to put it in words about the importance of their roles in sharpening up my life therefore just a honest try to put few things I learned in words.

Well the only thing which I learned and helped me grow in my life was Mentoring. It’s very important to have mentors in life who can nurture you and convert you from raw material to an awesome product.

Compassion, patience, preservance, ability; thy name is a Mentor

However I believe that we all are students in this world so keeping myself as a student I am writing and dedicating this post to my mentors.

This is what I have learned from my mentors and when I coach people I try to inculcate the same points in their system.

If I have to sum it up I have learned the following key points from them at different stages

Support, encouragement, friendship – Well we all need to be supportive in our lives no matter what role we are playing. The person who can encourage others towards reaching their goals will always succeed in any form of work because he has the art of creating leaders. A mentor who can scold you as a critic and support you as friend is the biggest asset towards the success you can achieve in your life.

Help with teaching strategies/subject knowledge: Many a times in life we get stuck into situations where we need an expert advice to get out of it. A good mentor is always ready to coach and impart the subject knowledge which we lack and help us in understanding & creating the strategies.

Discussing, sharing ideas –It’s important to have a vision and a dream. However it’s more important to have a Mentor with whom you can share your ideas and discuss its pros and cons .I always say no idea in this world is useless but it depend on the person with whom you shared that idea.

Feedback, constructive criticism – Criticism is something which you can get for free from any person but constructive criticism which will help you in growing will always comes from a person who care about your growth and it’s your Mentor.

Career affirmation, advancement, commitment – for all these factors in this competitive world we need right people to guide us, sometimes when we don’t have a mentor we fall for the traps and later we realize the old quote All that glitters is not gold

Reflection –This is the most important point and I proudly say I am the reflection of my mentors. They were never interested to influence me but they were interested in sharpening my skills and abilities and to become a leader like them. They all are great leaders however I am still just a leader who is just a reflection of those great individuals who made me realized the best art you can teach anyone is the art of mentoring ; creating leaders.

“Better Than A Thousand Days Of Diligent Study Is One Day With A Great Mentor…”

My book The Reflection Success or Stress Choose Wisely is dedicated to the teachings & knowledge which I have learned from all these great personalities & how it has helped me shaped my life towards Peaceful Progress & helping others.

“If I hadn’t had mentors, I wouldn’t be here today. I’m a product of great mentoring, great coaching

The line between Respect and Fear

A Gangster was asked why he carried a gun. He replied:“Before I had this gun, I didn’t get any respect. Now I do.”

Well this line tells all .This article is not about us as professionals its about us as a role model as a brother sister or as Parents.

In a recent survey I spoke to many parents and teachers and I found out that they believe if a child obeys them, or says “Yes, Sir/ No, Sir,” it means the child respects them. Several teachers have told me they felt more respected when there was more ‘discipline’ in the classrooms.

There is a danger in mislabeling fear as respect. To use an analogy, consider what would happen if two jars in the medicine cabinet were mislabeled. What if poison Liq ARSENIC was labeled as cough syrup, or acid as contact lens cleaner?

Here are some comparisons between fear and respect:

  • Fear is toxic.
  • Respect is nurturing.
  • Fear destroys self-confidence. Respect builds it.
  • Fear is life-threatening. Respect is life-enhancing.
  • Fear is forced. Respect is earned.
  • Fear is learned. Respect is earned

To confuse the two creates serious problems for society. Fear and respect are very similar feelings, as anyone who’s heard a ghetto kid use the terms interchangeably can attest to. But they’re not the same. Where is the border between fear and respect, or rather, how are they related to each other?

Respect always involves at least a bit of low level fear or at least the potential for it. That is, one cannot feel true respect someone or something that isn’t capable of adversely affecting him. Respect also has other ingredients. It’s kind of like liking and fearing someone at the same time. If you look at the root of the word (“look back” in Latin), this makes sense. Respecting someone is like constantly looking back over your shoulder at someone following you, always making sure they’re never too far or too close.

Fear is a purer emotion. It’s simply the recognition that someone or something has the potential to harm you, and nothing more. It doesn’t involve the complex mix of attraction and avoidance that respect does — it simply makes people want to get away from the object of fear ASAP, and stay away.

There is no respect (or love) in fearing someone, or vice versa. There’s only a response to a perceived danger, and a change in attitude one adopts in the desire to escape that danger or to befriend what one perceives as a `greater power’ in order to be a part of it rather than its target.

Real respect is in empathy and understanding, of two different people on a level ground, looking straight at each other — not in a top-dog/under-dog relationship, where one is looking up at the other, and then away, as the other is looking down at him.

It is important for a parent to be an authority figure and not a tyrant.

When you respect someone, you value them and what they have to share. When you fear the person, you do what they say to do to prevent consequences. Fear does not allow the child to develop and grow. They don’t learn how to become independent thinkers, make decisions or express themselves in a relationship that is kept together by fear.

So it’s our choice what we create in minds of our children’s, brothers, sisters, nephews etc.

“Respect is reverence out of love; Fear is reverence out of hate. Choose Wisely”
